A step towards green living

A little makeover every now and then is totally worth it. So here are five ways to redo your home decor in an affordable manner

Refurbishing home might seem like a herculean task but a little makeover every now and then is totally worth it. And while you are at it, make sure to do the renovation the green way or with a little regard to the environment. An eco-friendly home does not only reduce the negative impact on the surroundings but also ensures good health and happiness of your family. If you think that remodeling house the sustainable way can burn a hole in your pocket, then you are certainly mistaken. Here are some of the efficient ways you can redo your house in an affordable manner and take the first step towards green living.

VOC-free paint or concrete walls

Beautifully decorated walls set the tone of the house and make all the difference. Repainting is one of the basic ways to give a new look and feel to the house but using a paint that contains a lot of harmful chemicals can potentially harm the environment and affect the air quality of the house. Cheap paints emit Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), hazardous fumes and other particulate matter, which can drastically make one vulnerable to chronic health disorders. Thus, make sure to choose only eco-friendly paints that are free of VOCs and lead, especially if you have children at home.

Concrete walls are considered to be another option to go for while remodeling your place sustainably. They are constructed or molded with cement giving different shapes and designs. These are more in trend these days instead of paint giving a fine royal finish to your living area.

Welcome green plants indoors

The vibrant green houseplants do not only embellish your living space but also makes the air cleaner and fresher. Plants help to remove toxins from air, improve mood, boost creativity and lower stress and anxiety. While keeping the plants can be immensely beneficial for the health of inhabitants, it is essential to choose an eco-friendly planter so that the plants function properly. Opt for inexpensive and sustainable concrete planters to accommodate your houseplants as they put less strain on the environment and enable plants to thrive, providing a suitable habitation.

Reclaimed wood

While selecting green materials for your home, stick to basics and opt for wooden furniture as it never goes out of the style. From kitchen countertops to floors, patios to outdoor seating options, old wood can be included in every possible way as these are highly durable and easy to maintain. Incorporating reclaimed wood pieces do not only save up renovation costs, but also provide stylish interior décor without harming the environment.

Natural textiles and finishings

Choose hypoallergenic, biodegradable and recyclable fashioning pillows, mattresses, bedding materials. Upholstery made of natural latex is an eco-friendly option to keep away dust mites, moisture, and VOCs. Opt for carpets and rugs created from natural materials such as cotton, jute or wool rather than synthetic fibers that ultimately end up languishing the landfills.

Save energy

Let the natural light inside the house and carefully position mirrors that encourage light to bounce around a pokey room. Even ceiling portholes can channel light from the roof and diffuse natural light in the living space, making it vibrant and full of life. Save up energy by using LED lighting as they consume considerably less amount of power and are more sustainable sources of artificial energy.
