Heart on your sleeve

Couple tattoos have gained tremendous popularity in the last few years. Here are some creative ideas to express your love by getting inked together this Valentine’s Day. By Team Viva

Valentine’s Day marks the celebration of love. It is that time of the year when love and romance blossom in every heart and in every corner of the world. The couples explore new ways to express their emotions and make their partner feel special. There are many things that you can do to make someone feel special, yet there are some people who want to wear their hearts, literally, on their sleeves by getting a permanent tattoo on their skin!

Couple tattoos have gained tremendous popularity in the last few years. Getting a beautiful piece of art tattooed on your body to dedicate it to your spouse/partner is something thoughtful and cherishable. Both ink and love require lifelong commitments as they never fade, regardless of how much time passes. So if you want to show your partner that you’re pretty serious about the relationship and it’s a ‘forever’ kind of love, then matching tattoos are the new, modern way to reveal how much this bond matters to you!

There are a variety of tattoo styles that are trending these days. People have become creative and are finding different ways of inking their love. Some designs include, king and queen crowns, connecting puzzle tattoo, partner’s name, name initials, zodiac symbols, infinity sign, or wedding date etc.

An award-winning tattoo artist, Lokesh Verma who is the founder of Devil’z Tattooz, has listed down some trends that are popular among couples:

Name or date: Many couples tend to get too romantic on this specific day and get each other’s names inked to show how much they love each other. The most popular example of this was Saif Ali Khan’s tattoo for his lady love, Kareena Kapoor Khan. One can also get special dates inked, such as wedding anniversary or the first time you met. These are special memories and moments to cherish.

Identical ones: For an everlasting bond, a lot of people prefer to find that one common thing which both the partners can connect with such as word or phrase, musical notes or any symbol. Having the same tattoo links you together for life. Even, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas marked their first anniversary of their engagement by getting matching tattoos to celebrate that.

Connecting tattoos: Connecting or half and half tattoo is complete only when the couple is together. Thus, depicting that they are incomplete without each other. One example is the heartbeat tattoo that runs from one to the other. Couples who are in a long-distance relationship also get connecting tattoos to represent how you and your partner  may be miles apart but still connected.

Minimalistic designs: To make a big impact, go small! A lot of people like to keep things personal, super discreet, nothing to elaborate, visible, flashy or bold. For such private and simple people, the minimalistic tattoos are the best options — small tattoos to define the large amount of love you feel. Want to convey a powerful message in a subtle way? Then small tattoos characterised with clean lines are the way to go!

Ink the fingerprint: This is something quirky and unique — getting the fingerprint of your partner printed on yourself. It’s like a signature of love inked on you, which is the ultimate seal of love.
