SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur announced the winners of the SRM Tamil Peraayam awards 2021 (Thamizh Academy awards) at the press meet held at the Press Club in Chennai. The winners were announced by founder chancellor of SRM Group of Institution, Dr T R Paarivendhar, the SRMIST vice chancellor Dr C Muthamizhchelvan, and Tamil Peraayam head Karu Nagarajan.

Speaking at the press meet, Dr Paarivendhar said, “Every year, we allocate about Rs 20 lakhs towards this Thamizh Academy awards. We call for nominations and the section process is done in three stages.”

“This is the 10th year we are giving out this award. We have had over 350 entries this year. The purpose of this award is to encourage many more to promote the language all over the world,” he added.

The winners were awarded for their best contribution towards Tamil language, literature, and culture for 2021. The awardees and prize money are as follows:

The Pudhumaippithan Padaippilakkiya virudhu (short story, novel, drama) of Rs  one lakh was awarded to Kengapuram A Venila and Sruthi from Muthunadu. The Bharathiyar Kavithai virudhu of Rs  one lakh was proferred to Kurunjippookal Kadavoor Manimaran, and Aazha Valliappa Kuzhanthai Ilakkiya virudhu of Rs  one lakh was given to Malayar Manipadalgal book Vettriselvan; G U Pope Translation award (translation from Tamil) of  Rs  one lakh was given to Dr Palani Arangasami. Pai Na Appuswamy Aaruviyal Tamil virudhu/APJ Abdul Kalam Technology award (science /technology in Tamil) of  Rs  one lakh was won by V Dilli Babu, and Muthutthandavar Thamizhisai virudhu (book on sculpture/ Tamil music) of Rs  one lakh was given to TKS Kalaivanan. The Parithimar Kalaingnar Thamizh Aivaringnar virudhu (research book on Tamil) of Rs  one lakh was awarded C Mahendran, the Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar Social Justice award of Rs  one lakh was proffered to C Mageshwaran.  Sudesamithiran Thamizh Idhazh Virudhu (Tamil arts, literature and cultural journal) of  Rs  50,000 was awarded to M Poongundran and Tholkappiyar Thamizh Sangam virudhu (Rs  50,000) was won by Manimegalai Mandram from Rajapalayam, the Arunachalakkavirayar virudhu (Tamil music / folklore troupe) of Rs  50,000 was awarded to Thirupuvanam Athmanathan and  the Paarivendhar Painthamizh virudhu (lifetime achievement award) of Rs  five lakh was proffered to Dr P Valanarasu.
