Acting on the inputs from Army Intelligence, the Amethi police arrested two persons from Mawaiya hamlet and recovered a satellite phone from their possession. Soon after arrest, the sleuths of Army Intelligence, local intelligence unit and Anti-Terrorists Squad grilled youths to verify if they had any terror link. Sources said that Amethi police got a message from Army Intelligence on Thursday about activation of a banned satellite phone in Mawaiya village under model police station in Ramganj.

The senior officers directed SWAT team in-charge Dhirendra Kumar Verma, surveillance cell in-charge Vivek Singh and Ramganj police station in-charge Mithilesh Singh to take action.

Later, in a joint operation the police team raided the house where the satellite phone was active. In the raid, the joint team found a grey colour Korea-made satellite phone and charger in a room of the house.

The police arrested Jabbar Ali alias Bajaj, a resident of Mawaiya present in house and Shamim alias Lallu, hailing from Kandhai Hanumanganj locality of Pooreypandey Siwanganj in Pratapgarh.

According to sources, during interrogation by senior officers of Army Intelligence, ATS and police, Shamim revealed that earlier he used to work in Saudi Arabia and had found the satellite phone lying near the airport four years ago. Shamim said he gave the phone to his brother-in-law, Jabbar as he did not have a charger for it.

Shamim disclosed that after arranging the charger he brought the phone in Amethi and on Thursday, he charged the phone but as he switched it on the police raided his house and arrested him.

Shamim said that he did not know that the recovered phone was banned.
