In a step towards forging a united anti-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) front, several prominent leaders of Opposition parties on Sunday attended the ‘Samman Diwas Rally’ in Fatehabad and called for a new alliance that would include the Congress and the Left parties for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The rally, organised to mark the 109th birth anniversary of late Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal by INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala to forge a joint front against the BJP, was attended by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his Deputy and senior RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar from Maharashtra, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Sitaram Yechury, JD(U) leader KC Tyagi, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Meghalaya Governor and senior BJP leader Satya Pal Malik also sent a video message praising Devi Lal.
However, several other regional satraps like the TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav gave the rally a miss along with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
