UCC, 1L Govt jobs, Rs 10K cr for agri infra  in BJP’s Guj pledge

Uniform Civil Code, one lakh Government jobs for women, Rs 10,000 crore for Agri-marketing infra, blue economy industries corridor, and financial assistance to EWS/OBC students are among the main points of the BJP Gujarat manifesto released on Saturday by party’s national president JP Nadda and  Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The manifesto called the “Sankalp Patra” also promised free education to girls from pre-primary to post-graduate level. In the manifesto released at Gandhinagar, the BJP also promised 1 litre of edible oil four times a year and 1 kg subsidised chana per month at subsidised rates through the PDS system to the people of Gujarat.

Setting up an anti-radicalisation cell is another promise of the BJP.

Besides, the manifesto promised to implement the Gujarat Recovery of Damages of Public and Private Properties Act.

The Act aims to recover damages done to public and private properties by anti-social elements during riots, violent protests, and unrest.

“We always do what we say and it is our specialty that we also do what we have not said (in the manifesto),” Nadda said at the launch.

The party said it will also launch Gujarat Olympics Mission and create world-class sports infrastructure with an aim to host the Olympic Games in 2036, as per the manifesto. The manifesto also mentioned converting 20,000 government schools into schools of excellence with a budget of  Rs 10,000 crore in the next 5 years.

Gujarat will have elections in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will take place on December 8. Gujarat is the fourth state where the BJP has spoken about implementing the UCC. Earlier, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, and Karnataka had promised the UCC. In the manifesto, the BJP has assured to make Gujarat number one in the country in civil aviation, modernise the State police force, and bring Rs 5 lakh crore of foreign investment in the next five years.

It has promised that the amount of medical insurance coverage under the Ayushman Bharat scheme would be doubled from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Another highlight of the BJP manifesto is on tribal development. For the all-around socio-economic development of tribals in Gujarat, BJP said it will spend RS 1 lakh crore under the ‘Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana 2.0.’.

Amid the debate on the need to do away with “revadi” culture, both the BJP and Congress as well as AAP have tried to outscore each other in promising doles to the voters.

The Congress has promised 10 lakh jobs in Government and semi-Government departments, free medical treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh, LPG cylinder at Rs 500, 300 units of free electricity every month, unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000 per month, Rs 2,000 pension to divyangs, widows, senior citizens, and needy women, and waiver of loans of up to Rs 3 lakh of all fishermen.

The AAP has also promised free water to farmers, Rs 3,000 unemployment allowance, and a waiver of electricity bills.

Nadda said his party will also set up two Sea Food Parks (one each in South Gujarat and Saurashtra), build India’s first Blue Economy Industrial Corridor and strengthen fishing-related infrastructure (jetties, cold supply chain, and mechanisation of boats) if voted back to power, said the BJP chief. The BJP has been ruling Gujarat for last 27 years and is currently locked in a  keen triangular contest with the Congress and the AAP.
