The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) Bhubaneswar Chapter organised a conference for school and college teachers on “Empowering Educators” at DDCE, Utkal University, on Tuesday.
Chief guest Prof (Dr) Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, Vice-Chancellor, SOA University, said, “A teachers is a motivator, mentor, father, mother to the students.” He should be a good human being, building character for the students, provides morality and human value and service to humanity.
On the New Education Policy (NEP), he said the NEP is not quantity of education but quality of education and it should not be based on class-based orientation but should be quality, innovation and skill-based education.
Prof (Dr) Yogesh Pratap Singh, Registrar, National Law University of Odisha, in his keynote address talked about “Performance Appraisal for Teachers”. A teacher has to undergo 50 hours’ various training programmes, workshop, he said and stressed upon the importance of legal education. Recognising the contribution of teachers, the NEP gives them autonomy and innovative teaching methods, he added.
Guest of Honour Prof Krishna Chandra Rath, Director, DDCE, Utkal University, said teachers are role models for the students and a teacher should create a healthy learning culture in the schools and colleges.
Prof (Dr) Samson Moharana, Professor and Dean, Birla School of Commerce, Birla Global University, emphasised on teachers’ empowerment. He said that without students, there is no role for the teachers. Teaching is a passion. A teacher cannot go to the classes without proper preparation.
The others who addressed the conference included Dr JK Sisugoswami, Principal, MBS Public School; CS Mayank Tiwari, Asst Professor of Law, NLUO; CS Prabhat Kumar Nayak, Past Chairman, ICSI Bhubaneswar Chapter.
