‘Govt has to sit across the table with industries’

Saturday, 02 July 2022 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

State Minister for Energy, Industries and MSME Pratap Keshari Deb has said that the mindset of people in general and industry and Government in particular have to change if the State wants to see a new dawn in industrial growth. Gone are those days when the Government was making a policy and thrusting it upon the industry. Now is the age of partnership. There should be no giver-taker tug-of-war. The Government has to sit across the table with industries and pave new path into the tomorrow world.

Deb was speaking at a programme organised by the Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Wednesday. He said everyone has now realised the mega and metro cities of the country have reached a saturation point in holding and delivering. Bhubaneswar has turned into a new hub for education, skill development, entrepreneurship at all levels. “These are times that we should not only focus on large industries sector but put our hands and feet into the middle, small and micro industries where the real jewel is hidden,” he said.

Prof Mukti Kanta Mishra, President of Centurion University of Technology and Managemen extended his multi-sector and multi-campus skill development institutional support to the UCCI members and also promised the same to the State at large.

UCCI president Brahma Mishra, who presided over the meeting, announced that different countries have already given a go-ahead to the UCCI on prospects of various business tie-ups. In mid-August, a team of UCCI members would visit Nepal followed by a visit to Bangladesh and some other countries during the year.

Mishra applauded the Dubai conclave in which Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made himself present and managed to sign huge investment proposals for the State.

Mishra dealt with in detail the difficulties the MSME sector is confronting in Odisha. Value addition is not being made within the State and the MSME sector is not growing at the pace it should have been by now, he said while lamenting that the valuable natural resources from the State are being siphoned off to other areas of the world depriving Odisha entrepreneurs of the opportunities to grow.
