The members of the Umarkote Bar Association have demanded regular Sub-Collector camps here.
In a Press meet held on Monday the bar members argued that the people under Umarkote, Raighar, Jharigam and Chandahandi tehsil, who have cases pending in the Court of the Sub-Collector, Nabarangpur, are facing difficulties due to non-functioning of the camp court here. Earlier, the Sub-Collector was conducting hearing of the cases pertaining to OLR, OSATIP and allied appeal cases for one day every month here but it was stopped since the outbreak of Covid pandemic.
"But after the normalisation no camp courts are held here as a result of which the local litigants are undergoing a harrowing time. Particularly, people from the SC and ST communities deprived of their rightful ownership to the land are at the receiving end," alleged the lawyers.
Despite several petitions to the district administration, people continue to be deprived of justice as cases linger for years, at times even without trial, they added.
Umarkote Municipality is a commercial hub of Nabarangpur district bordering Maoist-infested Chhattisgarh to its west. It is 60 km from the district headquarters. A proposal for creation of another new Sub Division was put forth by the district administration in 1990 , but that is yet be realized, the lawyers further added.
