'Upgrade VSSUT to nat'l standard'

Saturday, 14 May 2022 | PNS | SAMBALPUR

The old students of UCE Burla (present VSSUT) and the elite citizens of the region and the State cutting across localities have demanded upgradation of the VSSUT to an international standard institution.

“Since it has produced engineers who have worked all over the globe including ISRO and NASA, this age-old technical institution needs upgradation at par with any other institution of the country without any second thought,” demanded Sunil Kumar Samataray of the Parents' Association of VSSUT.

Ashesh Padhi, project head of Jindal of Barbil and Paradip, Sudhakar Patrai, former chief engineer of State Water Resources Department and many other old students echoed similar concern.

“The VSSUT is not the pride of the State, but of the entire country as it is one among the oldest technical institutions of the country and produced brilliant engineers cum makers of the world and nation. But it is remaining neglected in spite of so many demands before State and the Centre,” lamented many others including from Sambalpur and Western Odisha.

They lamented that when the State Government has sanctioned Rs 1,500 crore for OUTR, it has not made similar sanction for UCE/VSSUT suo-motto although demands were placed much earlier for upgrading VSSUT.

Giving a comparison, they said that the VSSUT has more than 200 acres of land with 6,000+ students, whereas OUTR has 4,600 students with half of the land of VSSUT. “Hence, priority should also be given to Burla as OUTR,” they opined.

“We don’t have any objection to the upgradation of OUTR and also allotment of huge funds to it. Our demand is to give similar priority and justice to VSSUT also,” they suggested.
