Monday, 24 January 2022 | PNS | CUTTACK

The Commissionerate police on Sunday arrested one more person for his alleged links with the pre-natal sex determination racket being active at the Alfa Healthcare Clinic in Cuttack.

So far, as many as five accused have been arrested in connection with the case.

The fifth accused, one Manas Ranjan Panda, had supplied the ultrasonography machine to the clinic, which was running without registration for the last six months at Kathagola Sahi under the Mangalabag police station. During questioning, Manas admitted that the machine was procured from Ranchi.

Further probe into the matter is on to ascertain other links in the case, police said. Many people who are suspected to be involved in the racket are still at large.

Notably, police on January 17 had raided the clinic for conducting the banned pre-natal sex determination test. Police said the diagnostic centre used to charge Rs 5,000 for each test. Several equipments used for carrying out the tests were also seized.
