Friday, 07 October 2022 | PNS | Lucknow

Stern action and various measures taken by the government under Mission Shakti seem to have failed to curb crime against women as several more cases of rape poured in during the last 24 hours.

In the first case reported from Sultanpur, a 13-year-old minor girl returning from her coaching class was gang-raped by three persons. The three accused allegedly caught hold of the minor girl, gang-raped her, and then fled.

The victim, a Class 8 student of Kadipur, was returning home late on Tuesday evening when the three gang-raped her in a deserted area. The family of the victim has filed a complaint against the accused.

According to police officials, two of the accused have been arrested while the third one is still absconding.

Superintendent of Police Somen Verma reached Kadipur late in the night and enquired about the incident from the family members of the victim and the police officials. The SP assured strict action against the accused.

In another incident reported from Hapur, a teenager was present alone in her house in a village in Hafizpur area and taking advantage of the situation late on Wednesday night, a youth from the neighborhood entered her house and tried to rape. However, the girl screamed and somehow freed herself and rushed out of the house following which some neighbours came out for her rescue. They also nabbed the accused when he was trying to flee the spot. The neighbours immediately informed the family members who subsequently called the police and handed over the accused, identified as Aamir, to the cops.

Police registered a case against him and sent him to jail.

In another incident also reported from Hapur, a teenager, living in Hapur Kotwali area, went out for work. She took a taxi for Mayuri locality but on the way, the driver, identified as Ankit, forcibly took her to the nearby Dhanaura forest. He later raped the girl at knife point and also made a video of the act. He set the girl free but not before threatening her with dire consequences and also to upload her video on social media if she reported the matter to the police.

The incident took place last week but the girl informed the family after the accused tried to blackmail her. The girl’s family lodged a report in this regard on Wednesday evening.

The police have registered a case on the complaint of the victim and launched a hunt for the taxi driver.

Meanwhile, in another case reported from Kannauj, a youth identified as Arif posed as Amit and befriended a Hindu girl by promising her a job and then raped her blackmailed her to convert to Islam.

Reports said that Arif, on promise of a job in the Railways, allegedly called the victim and took her to a hotel and raped her. The girl alleged that Arif even threatened to upload her compromising videos on social media and issued life threats if she did not convert to Islam and marry him

On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case against four accused and have started an investigation.

As per reports, the girl is a BSc student and Nahar Ghati Miyan Ganj resident Arif befriended her by giving his name as Amit about six months back. They then started talking on the phone. During this time, he also shot her video in a compromising position.

In her complaint, the girl alleged that Arif and his family members came to her house and threatened her and exerted pressure on her to change her religion. They also tried to force her to have nikah (Islamic wedding) with Arif.
