It is an irony to see an almost 150 years’ old school in Ganjam town has been in a pathetic condition while the State Government is boasting of its Smart School model. Here, the picture of the school in the Chief Minister's home district is something different.
The Nodal Upper Primary School in Madhykhanda Street of Ganjam, established in 1874, has around 300 students from Class I to VIII. But the school does not have safe and proper classrooms for the students as most of classrooms are either completely damaged or in a precarious condition.
The entrance building is a glowing example of the pitiable condition of the school. The building is in very dangerous condition. As classrooms are in tatters, the school authority has already approached their higher-ups, drawing their attention to the need to repair the building. But there is little response from the Government. Locals have demanded immediate intervention of the district Collector in the issue.
Though there are seven teachers in the school, but lack of safe classrooms is a big hindrance in teaching-learning process. The headmaster has informed that the Government was not taking any step in spite of repeated representations submitted by the school. Even the local representatives have no interest to solve the problem of the school.
