A woman and another woman who was pregnant were killed after a dried tree crashed over the auto-rickshaw by which they were travelling on NH-149 near Balipasi village under the Khamar PS on Friday afternoon.
The tragedy occurred when a family’s four members Gagan Parida, Jema, Kuna and Amani of village Tileipasi of Injeed GP were returning to their home from the Pallahara medical.
Gagan’s wife Jema died on the spot, Amani, wife of Kuna succumbed to her injuries while being shifted to the Angul Hospital. Irate locals blocked the road by keeping Jema’s body demanding compensation for the deceased’s families. SDPO Ranjita Suman Singh and Tehsildar Lambodar Marandi rushed to the spot and declared Rs 20,000 for each family from the Red Cross and temporary jobs in the Forest Department.
