At least 39 people died due to heavy rains and storm that lashed a large swathe of Uttar Pradesh in the last two days. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed officials to provide assistance to the families affected by the natural calamity.
A UP government spokesman said in Lucknow on Tuesday, “A total of 22 people lost their lives due to the rains and storm across the state in the last 24 hours. Of the deceased, 12 died of drowning, five due to lightning strike and the rest in building collapse triggered by rains. Besides, three persons were injured by lightning and losses of livestock were reported from Shahjahanpur and Banda. Earlier,17 people had died due to rains.”
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to provide ex gratia assistance to the affected families within 24 hours. Ex-gratia assistance is given from State Disaster Response Fund in case of damages caused by notified calamities such as storm, lightning and drowning by Government of India and state government. Under this, in case of death due to notified calamities, Rs 4 lakh per person, Rs 59,100 per person in case of physical disability from 40 per cent to 60 per cent, Rs 2 lakh per person in case of more than 60 per cent physical disability.
Meanwhile, Met officials predicted cloudy weather in the next 24 hours with possibility of thunderstorms in eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh.
