4 of a family killed in road accident

Four of a family met a tragic end when their SUV jumped over a divider and collided head-on with a truck in Barabanki on Wednesday morning.

Besides, seven other people were killed in separate road mishaps since Tuesday evening.

In Barabanki, four members of a family perished when a SUV collided with a truck on Wednesday. The four members of the family were heading to Lucknow from Ayodhya and they had hired a driver for the transit. Apparently the driver dozed off midway and two sheep suddenly appeared on the road. Desperately attempting to save the livestock, the sleepy driver suddenly swerved to his right and in the process hit the road divider before colliding with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was so intense that a JCB had to be called to extricate the bodies and send them for autopsy.

The deceased were identified as Haider Ali, Shafiq, Amir and Anees of Lucknow.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths.

Elsewhere in Jalaun, two persons were killed and 11 others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a parked truck on Jhansi-Kanpur national highway in Orai police station limits.

As per reports, a total of 13 people were travelling in the vehicle which collided with a truck parked at the roadside near an eatery. Two people, including the driver and a woman, were killed and 11 others were injured.

The deceased and the injured were from Siddharthnagar. They worked as daily wagers and were coming from Pune in Maharashtra.

The injured were rushed to a hospital. The condition of four of the injured was stated to be critical and they were referred to medical college hospital in Kanpur.

In another mishap in Agra, a policeman riding a bike died after being hit by an unknown vehicle on a highway in the Etmadpur area on Tuesday night.

Abhishek Faujdar (26) of Indra Nagar in Tundla (Firozabad) was posted in Auraiya's Phaphund police station and had gone to Agra on government work. While he was returning on Tuesday night, an unknown vehicle ran him over, killing him on the spot.

In Siddharthnagar, a father-son duo and a woman out on a night stroll, died in two separate mishaps in the last 24 hours.

As per reports, Reena Sahni (27) of village Bardaha Chauraha went out for a walk after dinner on Tuesday night when she was hit by a bike. The victim was critically injured and was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The bike owner was arrested soon after the accident and a case was registered against him.

In another incident near Bargadwa intersection, Mahtab Hussain (59) and his son Anwar Hussain of Barhara Kandai village in Purandarpur police station area of Maharajganj were returning home in their Scorpio MUV when the vehicle collided with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction.

While Mahtab died on the spot, Anwar died on the way to the hospital. The truck driver fled after the incident. A case was registered and the bodies were sent for post-mortem.

In Kannauj, a woman died while four other kin were injured when their car collided with a road divider on Agra-Lucknow Expressway early Wednesday morning. They were admitted to government medical college hospital in Tirwan from where two of them were referred to Kanpur medical college hospital.

Rajul Pandey (33) of Greater Noida, his wife Ruchi Pandey (32), their son Riyansh Pandey (2), mother Basanti Pandey (55) and niece Lucky Pandey (19) had gone to Siwan in Bihar. During their return journey, they met with an accident early Wednesday morning. While Ruchi died during treatment, Lucky and Basanti were referred to Kanpur medical college hospital in a critical condition.
