7,400 hectares covered with greenery in 45 months

Over 7,400 hectares of land in Chhattisgarh were covered with greenery under the Hariyali Prasar Yojana of the government in the past 45 months.

The scheme provides free of cost saplings to         farmers for plantation in their forest and agriculture land and a grant to look after them.

An official communiqué said on Tuesday that a total of 83.31 lakh saplings were planted under the scheme in he past 45 months.

A provision of Rs. 17.58 crores was made in the 2022-23 budget for plantation on farmers' land.

Under the scheme, the beneficiaries are provided saplings of Rs.50 to Rs. 5,000 free of cost. A grant is also paid to them for taking care of the plants. Farmers enjoy a benefit of Rs. 30,000 per acre of land annually. Under the scheme, 18.56 lakh saplings were planted on 600 hectares of land in 2019-20 and 33.80 lakh saplings on 3,000 hectares in 2020-21.

The scheme includes the plantation of teak, bamboo, khamhar, amla, sheesham, sandalwood, melia dubia, clonal nilgiri, tissue culture bamboo, tissue culture sagaun, mango, jackfruit, drum stick, custard apple and other species.
