People turned up in large numbers on Tuesday to cast their votes at all the 848 polling booths across 8 blocks in the third phase of polls in the district.
There were long queues of voters as soon as the polling began at 7am. At around 3 pm, the average voting percentage was around 71 per cent.
“There has been no report of any untoward incidents in any of the polling booths on Tuesday. The districts on the Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Bihar border, were monitored with the help of drones, superintendent of police Anjani Kumar Jha said.
Out of 848,a total of 402 polling booths have been declared sensitive, while 126 booths were identified as hypersensitive.
Polling was held in the third phase in 66 panchayats to elect 83 panchayat members, 86 mukhiyas, 848 panchayat committee members and 8 zilla parishad members. A total of 2782 candidates are in the fray.
Total 191 seats were decided uncontested in the first phase. Votes will be counted on May 31.
Panchayat polls in the district are being held in three phases (first, third and fourth) with the last phase scheduled on May 29.
