Agnipath protests: Whoever takes law into their hands will not be Spared: Haryana Home Minister

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Friday said that it is the right of every person to protest, but those who vandalize and create a law and order situation under its guise will not be spared under any circumstances.

Responding to queries raised by mediapersons regarding the Agneepath scheme of the Central Government, he said that people who break the law cannot join the army, only disciplined people can join the army.  The Home Minister said that there are some mischievous elements in our country who are always looking for opportunities to disturb the peace of the country and it will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He said that such miscreants will not be spared under any circumstances and instructions have been given in this regard. He added that lists are being prepared and we will not spare such miscreants.

Earlier, Haryana Government issued temporary suspension of mobile internet services, all SMS services (only including bulk SMS and excluding banking and mobile recharge), and all dongle services etc. provided on mobile networks except the voice calls in the territorial jurisdiction of Sub Division Ballabgarh of district Faridabad and Mahendragarh and will be in force for next 24 hours with immediate effect. The suspension has been ordered in the exercise of powers under Section 5 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 to be read along with Rule (2) of Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017.

An official spokesperson said that there is a likelihood of causing tension, annoyance, obstruction or injury to persons, danger to human life and proper, disturbance of public peace and tranquillity in Sub Division Ballabgarh and Mahendragarh by the protesters, agitators, miscreants and antisocial elements, in view of the potential law and order situation aroused in adjourning district Palwal on account of new Army Recruitment Policy.

Meanwhile More protests broke out in Haryana for the second day on Friday against the Centre's Agnipath scheme, with some youths burning tyres and several others squatting on rail tracks in Narwana and blocking the Jind-Bathinda track, officials said. 

In Rohtak, the protesting youth burnt tyres, while over 40 youths were rounded up in Ballabgarh for resorting to stone pelting at vehicles on NH 19. The protestors, who were mainly college students, shouted slogans against the Agnipath scheme and resorted to stone-pelting near Anaj Mandi, police said, adding mild lathicharge was used on them. A company of the Indian Reserve Battalion has been requisitioned from Rewari to ensure law and order, they said.

Meanwhile, police have booked over 1,000 people for the violence on Thursday in the Palwal district.
