The Vigilance police on Friday conducted simultaneous searches on the properties of Janardan Palei, Anti-Smuggling Guard, in the office Baleswar Civil Supplies Officer (CSO) on the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
So far, the following movable and immovable assets worth over Rs.1.4 crore were found in the possession of Palei and his family members: 12 plots of land in Jaleswar and one in Chhatrapur. The Registered Sale Deed value of the plots is Rs 15.18 lakh. However, the actual value is likely to be much higher. Undervaluation during registration was suspected.
A double-storied building at Jaleswar worth R 40 lakh, a hotel at Nahanajore Mauza, Jaleswar worth over Rs 13.57 lakh and postal, bank and insurance deposits worth Rs 55.16 lakh, cash, gold jewellery and household articles worth Rs.10.4 lakh.
Further searches were continuing.
