Avg 3 murders, 7 dowry cases a month in Rourkela

As many as 141 people have been murdered during last 47 months (January 2018 to November 2021) under Rourkela Police District (RPD), reveals data.

 

These include male, female, students and children too. Most of the cases are due to failure or one side love, business enmity, family feud due to land dispute or other reasons. Though in many cases police have arrested accused persons but, there are also in many cases, in which the police are groping in the dark.   

 

Sources said while in 2018 the figure was 40, it was 31 in 2019, in 2020 and till 25 November 2021 it was 25. 

 

According to records while in Koira Police Station highest number of cases with 19 (2018-4, 2019-5, 2020-7 and 2021-3) were registered, it is followed by Lahunipara PS with 18 cases (2018-11, 2019-3, 2020-2 and 2021-2), Bisra PS with 16 (2018-7, 2019-2, 2020-5  and 2021-2), K Bolanga PS with 16 (2018-3, 2019-4, 2020-4 and 2021-5), Bonai PS with 13 (2018-1, 2019-4, 2020-7 and 2021-1) and Brahmani Taranga PS with 12 (2018-2, 2019-3, 2020-4 and 2021-3).

 

Similarly, while during last 47 months 11 cases were registered in Raghunathpalli PS, eight cases were registered in Plant Site PS, six each in Gurundia and Chandiposh PSs, 4 each in Bondamunda, Tikayatpalli and Sector-7 PSs, two cases in Jhirpani PS, and one each was registered in Lathikata and Sector-19 PSs.

 

Significantly no murder case was registered within these periods in Sector-3. Sector15 and Chhend Police Stations said source.

 

Similarly, during these periods total 332 dowry torture cases were registered under Rourkela Police District. While 78 cases were registered in Mahila Police Station, 58 cases were registered in Uditnagar, 30 in Bonai, 26 each in Sector-7 and Raghunathpalli, 16 in Koira, 11 each in Brahmani Taranga and Bondamunda, nine in Jhirpani, seven each in Plant Site and Bisra, six in Chhend, five each in Lahunipara and Sector-15, four in Lathikata PS, three each in sector-3 and Sector-19 and only one case was registered in tribal dominated Gurundia PS.

 

Significantly no case was registered in two police stations i.e. Chandiposh and K Bolanga which are also tribal dominated.

 

The data also reveals during these periods total 1,515 accident cases were registered in different police stations. While 618 people died due to the accidents (2018-166, 2019-147, 2020-166 and 2021-139), 627 were seriously injured.
