As a special tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, students and faculty members of the State’s premier technical institute, Government ITI, Brahmapur, have artistically and professionally designed a statue of Gandhi exclusively out of scraps which is said to be the country’s first such Gandhi statue.
Principal of the ITI Dr Rajat K Panigrahi said the students and faculty were keen to unveil such an innovative statue on October 2, the Gandhi Jayanti day, since Gandhiji has had always emphasised on cleanliness as his principal mantra. So, the students of this institute started working on the concept of waste to wealth and developed a host of scrap sculptures to bring name and fame to Odisha in general and the institution in particular.
Being grossly motivated by the PM’s call to the nation to create wealth out of waste, the students and staffs of this institute are working hard to develop their skills for innovative designs of diverse objects with the slogan “Swachhata ru Dakshata” (from cleanliness to skill), he said.
The design of the six-feet sculpture of Gandhiji is exclusively made from automobile scraps which weigh around 100 kg with 1,600 fan bearings. “This would be a great tribute to the Father of the Nation and a message to our society, Dr Panigrahi added.
