Chhattisgarh government had formed Bastar Academy of Dance Art and Literature (BADAL) for preservation and conservation of art and culture of the Bastar region.
The academy is digitalizing the folksongs, dances and dialects of the various tribal communities living in Bastar region.
The language section of the academy has also started diploma courses in Halbi, Gondi, Dhurvi and Bhatari dialect and is imparting training to teach the indigenous languages.
The folkdance and folk-music department of the academy is collecting and screening the music and dances of tribals and is training the young generation to these dying art-forms.
The BADAL Academy is playing an important role in the preservation and promotion of folk dance, local dialects, literature and craftsmanship of Bastar.
The prominent dances among them are Gawar Singh Nacha, Dandari Nacha, Dhurva Nacha and Parab Nacha.
The folk music being preserved includes Leja Geet, Mari Rosona, and Jagar Geet.
Besides, recently the Chhattisgarh government also approved recognition of the Academy as a college affiliated to the Indira Kala Evam Sangeet Vishvavidyalaya Khairagarh.
Through this academy, knowledge about various tribal cultures of Bastar would be passed on to the next generation and will be glorified at national and international-level.
BADAL academy campus has been equipped with library, recording room, open theatre, dance gallery, changing room, garden and residential house, pathway, exhibition hall, and a cafeteria.
