Thursday, 04 August 2022 | PNS | BALIPATNA

The Vigilance police on Wednesday caught Puspalata Paikaray, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, Balipatna police station under the Twin City Commissionerate police jurisdiction, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

Paikray had demanded the bribe from a person in connection with a case registered in 2020 at the PS, in which Paikaray is the Investigating Officer (IO). The demand was for adding stringent penal sections and charge-sheeting the case.

The bribe amount of Rs 5,000 was recovered from Paikaray’s possession and seized. Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case no. 23/ 2022 under Section 7PC Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered. Further investigation is in progress.

Locals alleged that Paikaray made mockery of the ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative of the State Government. She even threatened and abused the complainants who used to go to the police station to lodge an FIR. She was lenient with the accused but deliberately harassed locals to extort money from them.
