Do not allow water to stagnate around your house. The Director (Epidemic Control), Dr Subhash Mishra, made this appeal to people in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, saying monsoon increases the chances of dengue and malaria fever due to mosquito bite.
He said the rains provide a conducive environment for the growth of larvae of mosquitoes due to water logging. If adequate protective steps are not taken, then diseases like dengue and malaria will occur.
He urged people to monitor the symptoms of dengue, mainly shivering with fever, pain in muscles and rashes on chest, neck and face.
Apart from it, stomachache, vomiting, headache, restlessness and tiredness are other tell-tale signs. All these symptoms are observed only after a week of getting bitten by the Aedes mosquito. Early detection and treatment will save lives, he said.
Dr Mishra said people should not water to collect in old utensils, tyres and pots. Burnt oil can be sprayed in the drains to eliminate mosquito larvae.
The best protection is mosquito nets and full sleeve clothes.
