In a sensational killing in Agra, the district president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Caste cell shot dead his political colleague and later beheaded him.
However, while making efforts to conceal the crime by dumping the body in the jungles in the wee hours of Friday, the accused fell into the police net, and the cops arrested the leader after spotting him in the middle of jungles in suspicious circumstances.
The cops recovered the head and the body of the deceased from the car of the accused and alerted the senior officers. A case was registered in this regard and the accused were taken into custody.
Reports said that the victim, Naveen Verma, was a resident of Tarkari Wali Gali at Lohamandi in Agra, and vice-president of BJP Gopeshwar mandal and also a leading silver merchant of the district. His political colleague, Tinku Bhargava, the district president of the BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha, reportedly called him on Thursday evening and later offered him liquor. After Naveen Verma got drunk, Tinku Bhargava took him to Arsena village in Sikandra and shot him dead. Later Tinku kept the body in his car and along with his aide identified as Anil went to jungles adjacent to Arsena village to dump the body. To conceal the identity of Verma, both chopped off the head and kept it in the boot of the car. Not only this, the accused also removed the clothes of the deceased after killing him so that relatives or anyone else could not identify him from the clothes. They later parked the car in the middle of the jungle to dump the body and later throw the head at some other secluded place.
However their plan failed as a police team patrolling in the jungle in the wee hours of Friday became suspicious on seeing a car parked at the roadside in the forest adjoining Arsena village. Seeing the police stopping near their car, both the accused tried to escape but the cops chased them and nabbed both. The cops later also found a headless body lying near the car so they grilled them but both feigned ignorance.
The BJP leader also tried to take advantage of being senior leader of the ruling party but the cops asked him to show his car. When the car was checked, a severed head was found lying in the boot and the seats were found to be soaked with blood. The police team immediately alerted their seniors who rushed to the spot and after the accused were grilled, they revealed the identity of the victim as Naveen Verma and their identities as Tinku Bhargava of Belanganj and Anil.
When the police informed the relative of the silver trader about the murder, they reached the spot. Victim’s brother Praveen Verma informed the police that Naveen Verma was a silver trader and he had a shop outside of his house. Naveen had left the house on Thursday afternoon and when he did not return home in the evening, his wife Preeti called him at eight o'clock. Naveen informed her that he was with Tinku and would be back home in 15 minutes. When he did not come even after an hour, the children called him again but Naveen's mobile was switched off. They then called Tinku but his phone was also switched off.
According to Inspector of Sikandra, Anand Kumar Shahi, the motive for the murder was being investigated. He said the car in which the BJP leader had brought the silver trader’s body was owned by a friend and its number plate was changed.
