BJP leaders court arrest against curbs on protests

Tuesday, 17 May 2022 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

The Chhattisgarh BJP on Monday staged a ‘Jail Bharo’ movement across the state against curbs enforced by the Bhupesh Baghel     government on demonstrations and protests.

In Raipur, BJP leaders and activists marched towards the Chief Minister's House in Civil Lines under the leadership of senior BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal.

The activists were     intercepted by the police and, after they courted arrest, they were detained at the Central Jail for a few hours.

Former Chief Minister Raman Singh participated in the protest at Rajnandgaon.

Agrawal told the media that the Baghel government had enforced a ‘Mini Emergency’ in the state.

“The ‘Black Act’ of the Baghel government was against the freedom of speech and enacted to      suppress the voice of the people,” he said.

Raman Singh said the Congress was now confined to just two states in the country and the way leaders like Baghel govern, the party will soon be wiped out from the country.

Leader of Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly Dharamlal Kaushik, who led the demonstration in Bilaspur, predicted a     downfall for the Congress.
