The BJP Ganjam district unit on Wednesday announced to stage demonstrations before the MKCG Medical College Hospital here for continuous three days from May 17 demanding to fill up the vacancies of 112 specialist doctor posts in the hospital. The posts have remained vacant for years together as many senior doctors were transferred to other medical colleges.
The party’s decision followed a meeting of it chaired by district president Bibhuti Bhusan Jena. The demonstrations and dharnas would be held at the main entrance gate of the hospital from 10 am to 5 pm each day.
While thousands of patients come daily to the hospital, now because of the vacancies of specialist doctors they are deprived of proper treatment and have to return home or else spend heavily in private nursing homes or hospitals, Jena said.
The meeting was attended by Kanhu Charan Pati, Srikant Padhy, Saroj Sabat, Ram Kumar Patro and Pavat Kiran Sarangi.
