VSS NAGAR RESIDENTS DECRY CLOSURE OF UU GATE  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar:  The Veer Surendra Sai Nagar Unnayan Parishad has demanded to open the Utkal University (UU) Gate No-3 connecting VSS Nagar as it has been closed since Sunday afternoon. Parishad general secretary Dillip Dashsharma, vice-president Jayanta Parida, treasurer Maheswar Boswal, members Nimai Charan Das, Sheetal Chandra Mohanty and Pratap Nnada said that all of a sudden, the university authorities closed the gate by erecting a huge wall. This affects thousands of local residents who depend on the road to commute in the city. A resolution was adopted condemning the closure of the gate and deciding to start protest against it.

 

EYE CARE CAMP FOR SENIOR CITIZENS IN BBSR  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: Under the guidance of Chairman, Child and Women's Development Society (CWDS) Maj Dr Kalpana Das, an eye care camp was organised for senior citizens at the Nilachal Seva Pratisthan by the CWDS in association with the Rotary Club Bhubaneswar. Seventy senior citizens were given medicines after eye checkup. Nine patients were admitted at the Rotary Hospital, Bhubaneswar for cataract operation. The event was coordinated by CWDS coordinator, Puri, Kamal Kumar Dash. NSP founder Dr Subash Chandra Gajendra and manager Krishna Chandra thanked the CWDS for the humanitarian work.

 

WITHDRAW SB WOMEN’S COLLEGE LAND ACQUISITION: AIDSO  (Pix)

CUTTACK: The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Collector, Cuttack demanding withdrawal of the State Culture Department’s acquisition of land and infrastructure of the Sailabala Women’s College here. AIDSO district secretary Vinod Sethi and Isha Dhar and Shubhasmita Sahu alleged that this decision of the Government is anti-student and against educational development.

 

SOA PROF WINS ‘WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE’ CROWN  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: Manisha Praharaj, a faculty of the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA), has won the ‘Woman of Substance’ crown at the International Glam Icon Pageant 2022 held recently at Mumbai. Praharaj, Assistant Professor at the SUM Nursing College, participated in the three-day event with different sessions including talent round, photo shoot and grooming session before the finale. Altogether, 52 competitors from different States and countries participated in the pageant.

 

271 DONATE BLOOD AT JSW BPSL CAMP  (Pix)

Sambalpur: Under the guidance of Anil Singh, Director and Occupier, JSW BPSL, and in coordination with Odisha Police, Sambalpur, a blood donation camp was organised by the JSW BPSL on Wednesday.

Umesh Rai, COO, JSW BPSL, and Bidhu Mishra, IIC of Thelkolei PS, jointly inaugurated the camp. As many as 271 persons donated blood which shall be handed over to the Indian Red Cross Blood Bbank, Burla and IRC Blood Bank, Sambalpur. In August 2021 also, such a mega camp had been held where 286 persons donated blood.

 

SHANTI HOSP HOLDS WALKATHON ON HYPERTENSION DAY

Bhubaneswar: In observance of the World Hypertension Day on May 17 to create awareness among people, a walkathon was organised by the Shanti Memorial Hospital, Cuttack which covered some important roads of Cuttack city. The walkathon was flagged off by Dr Sreejoy Patnaik, CMD and Prof Dr Rekha Das, ED of the hospital.
