EX-MP SIVAJI PATNAIK PASSES AWAY
Bhubaneswar: Veteran CPI(M) leader and former three-time MP Sivaji Patnaik passed away at a private hospital here on Monday afternoon. He was 91. He had been admitted to the hospital on Sunday after his potassium level deteriorated, informed CPI(M) State secretary Ali Kishore Patnaik. Sivaji Patnaik was elected to the Lok Sabha thrice from the Bhubaneswar constituency. He was the MP between 1977 and 1980. Further, he represented Bhubaneswar from 1989 to 1996.
MLA PRASHANT JAGDEV SENT TO JAIL AGAIN
Bhubaneswar: Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev was sent to jail again after he surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court at Banpur on Monday. As the interim bail period of the legislator expired, he had surrendered before the court, following which he was sent to the Banpur Sub-Jail. Jagdev was arrested for ploughing his vehicle into a crowd injuring many at Banpur in March this year.
B’PUR MAHANAGAR MAHOTSAV ENDS
Brahmapur: The week-long 10th Mahanagar Mahotsav here ended on Sunday. Joining as guests in the valedictory function, Brahmapur MP Chandra Sekhar Sahu, MLA Bikram Kumar Panda, BJD district president Dr Ramesh Chandra Chaupattanayak and Ex-BDA Chairman Subash Chandra Moharana highlighted the glorious past of Ganjam and its art, culture and literature. Organising committee president Narayana Mahankuda and secretary Gopal Patanaik coordinated the event. In the afternoon session Brahmapur Mayor Sangha Mitra Dalai had inaugurated a literary meet.
CSPUR DAV STUDENTS’ SUMMER CAMP CONCLUDES
Bhubaneswar: Students of the DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur here performed various cultural programmes at the valedictory ceremony of their summer camp. Over 600 students participated in the weeklong activities in sports, art and painting, music, dance, acting and other forms of creative pursuits to rejuvenate themselves under the active guidance of experts and teachers.
CAPACITY-BUILDING TRAINING FOR TEACHERS HELD IN BHAPUR
Bhapur: A five-day digital capacity-building training camp for headmasters was organised at the Balunkeswar Deb Peeth High School here. It was coordinated by Nityananda Das. Among others, District Assistant Education Officer Ashok Nayak, Mo School Supervisor Niranjan Das joined as guests. About 50 teachers and headmasters representing 17 newly-transformed schools of Bhapur and Khandapada blocks participated. The training covered topics of digital medium of education, smart board, e-library, technology used in science lab, role of teachers and headmasters. Piramal Foundation trainer Rinku Gour, Brajendra High School Headmaster Umakant Sethi and Solapat Headmaster Dr GIrija Shankar Mohaptra conducted the training.
