Chhattisgarh Police has booked the captain of the state’s Ranji cricket team for getting a government job through fake documents, police said on Thursday.
Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal said the police acted against Harpreet Singh Bhatia (31) of Balod district for getting the job of an auditor/accountant in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department Office in Chhattisgarh with the help of a bogus marksheet.
He was booked under sections 420, 467, 468, 469, 470 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code on Wednesday night and further investigation into the matter is underway, Agrawal said.
In December 2014, the department invited applications for the vacant posts of auditor/accountant under sports quota, the FIR said.
After verification of Bhatia’s documents, the department called him for a field trial and he was selected from the probable list of candidates.
While verifying Bhatia’s documents, the Bundelkhand University in Jhansi revealed that no B Com (Final) degree was issued to Bhatia.
Bhatia was among the Indian squad in the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2010 and was picked by Pune Warriors for IPL 2011 and Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2017.
