Police in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon city on Thursday claimed to have frozen crypto-currencies trading wallet accounts worth Rs 4 crore of three Chinese nationals.
Three accounts registered for the cryptocurrency trading in the names Liu Qiang, Wing San Tse and Guo Pan, worth Rs 4 crores, have been frozen, a police statement in Rajnandgaon said.
Dr Abhishek Pal lodged a cheating case when he lost Rs 81 lakh after a Chinese woman lured him into investing in a cryptocurrency scheme with the promise of three-fold returns in April 2022.
Pal claimed that he met the woman, Anna Li from Hong Kong, through a social networking site. On her recommendation, he invested $35,000 in a crypto trading app. In all, he invested $107,825 or Rs 81 lakh, it added.
Pal could not withdraw his money even after depositing tax as demanded by those operating the scheme. Further hurdles convinced him that he had been duped, the statement said.
During the investigation, the police learnt that the suspect had created a bogus account.
Also, a crypto-currency trail was mapped to analyze flow of money with scores of wallet addresses and transactions through crypto trading apps, it added.
A Sha Zhu Pan is a type of scam originating from South East Asia, most often in China, where the suspects build a relationship with victims to deceive and dupe them, the statement said.
