Chhattisgarh on Wednesday constituted a Narwa Mission and nominated seven members under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary Subrat Sahoo.
This will enable a smooth operation of Narwa programmes (storing water in streams and rivulets by constructing storage points) in the state.
It will also assist in expediting the works related to the ‘Narwa’ development, an official communication said.
The body will have seven members to be chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (Forest and Climate Change Department) Subrat Sahoo.
The other members are Secretary, Panchayat and Rural Development Department, R. Prasanna; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Forces Rakesh Chaturvedi; Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Executive Officer CAMPA V. Shrinivas Rao; Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Joint Forest Management) Arun Kumar Pandey; Commissioner of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Mission Mohammad Abdul Kaiser Haq; Nodal Officer of Narwa-Garwa-Ghurwa-Badi and Chhattisgarh Godhan Nyay Scheme Dr. Tamboli Ayyaj Fakir Bhai; and Chief Engineer of MGNRE Mission Narayan Nimje.
The Narwa Programmes is being implemented by the Panchayat and Rural Development and the Forest and Climate Change departments. It aims at recharging underground water by the supply of water from drainage channels across the state.
Till now, 30,000 drainage channels (rivulets/streams) have been selected for recharging.
