The Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) on Tuesday raised concern over the rising incidents of looting from traders and thefts from shops in the state including in capital Raipur.
A CCCI delegation asked Raipur Superintendent of Police and Mayor to ensure safety and security to the traders.
CCCI President Amar Parwani and other office bearers called on Raipur Mayor Aijaz Dhebar and pointed at the rising incidents of robbery and criminal activities targeting traders in Dumtarai area.
Traders are regularly falling prey to loot on the road from Kamal Vihar to Devpuri Wholesale Vegetable Market. As the area is remote and the road does not have street lights, it is easy for criminals to target the traders, they said.
The delegation asked the Mayor to install street lights and Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTV) cameras, which can help to bring down the incidents. The Mayor assured necessary action.
The delegation asked Raipur Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal to increase patrolling on the route from Kamal Vihar to the Devpuri Wholesale Vegetable Market.
They called for a police outpost at the market and early arrest of the criminals.
On Monday night, a grain trader, Narednra Khetrapal (59), was attacked by some unidentified men and he lost Rs 50 lakh in Dumartarai locality. He also suffered a serious head injury.
