The Union Territory (UT) of Chandigarh secured top position among the union territories (UTs) in the periodical National Achievement Survey (NAS) for Classes 3 and 5. The survey has been conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) since 2012 across all states and UTs. As per the report, the average score of Chandigarh is higher than the National average in all classes and subjects, the UT official said.

In the statement, the UT official further said that as per scaled score, out of 500, Chandigarh got first position in class 3 with the score of 335 in language and 311 in Maths , second position in EVS with the score of 313 . In class 5, Chandigarh secured 1st position with the scaled score of 326  in  language  and 295 in  Maths and 2nd position in EVS with the score of 293.

It further stated that the performance of Chandigarh has improved over the previous NAS for classes 8th & 10th. Chandigarh has been ranked 1st position amongst all UTs in class 8th in all the subjects i.e. 334 in language, 285 in Maths, 285 in Science, 287 in Social Science. Similarly, in class 10th, Chandigarh has scored 290 in Modern Indian Language, 261 in Mathematics, 260 in Science, 287 in Social Science and 345 in English.

It should be mentioned here that NAS uses a representative sample of students carefully designed to fit the group being assessed. It is not an examination but checks the general health of the education system. The findings from this survey are used as inputs in policy, planning and designing pedagogical intervention to improve the students’ learning outcomes at the district, state and national levels. It is organised for Classes 3, 5, 8 and 10.
