Chandigarh performs Mass Yoga at 75 locations on 8th International Day of Yoga

Chandigarh celebrated 8th International Day of Yoga at 75 different locations including the main event at Rock Garden, Chandigarh where Banwarilal Purohit,  Administrator,  was the chief guest and Som Prakash, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, was guest of honour at the event. 

 

The grand event saw the participation of 2200 participants from across the city. As India celebrates 75 years of independence, the Chandigarh Administration decided to perform yoga at 75 different locations with a total participation of 2700. The event was done by Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.The chief guest and guest of honour also planted a sapling on this occasion.

Participants from all walks of life were seen stretching and bending in diverse yoga poses. The audience also witnessed the live streaming of Prime Minister’s address from Mysuru where he highlighted that Yoga brings peace for individuals, but for nations and the world.

Directorate of AYUSH, Department of Tourism, Departments of Central Government, Govt. College of Yoga Education & Health, Sector 23, Teachers & Students of Govt. Colleges along with various organizations/ NGOs including Art of Living, Patanjali, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, GRIID, Khelshala, Brahma Kumaris, Bihar School of Yoga, Nirankari, Institute for the Blind, Brahmrishi Yoga Training College, Yoga Federation of India and Chandigarh Yoga Association, Chandigarh Yoga Sabha, Yogasana performed yoga asanas at the iconic Rock Garden.

The visually impaired students of the Institute of blind also celebrated the Yoga Day wherein the students performed yoga at their respective hometowns due to ongoing summer break.  Anganwadi, Child Care Institutions, Senior Citizen Homes, Asha Kirans and Nari Niketan also organised yoga demonstrations to motivate the beneficiaries to make Yoga a part of their daily life & experience its benefits which will lead towards better health and wellness for all.

The Administrator highlighted the importance of yoga because better health is the key for success and all should adopt yoga as a way of life. He stated that a small time out of the daily routine improves productivity and results in better management of time & stress.
