The Chhattisgarh government stands by its pledge by ensuring 5 lakh jobs in the state in last thre ee years, official spokesman and Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey said on Thursday.
He quoted the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) to say that the unemployment rate in the state is 2.1 percent, compared to 7.9 percent at the national level..
Addressing the media, he said the BJP had been raising doubts about the data of the state government to provide employment to 5 lakh persons.
He said the Chhattisgarh government, having entered its third year, has to face two-and-a-half years of Covid-19 pandemic related shutdown.
Despite that, the state economy has maintained growth due to pro-farmer and pro-people policies, he said.
He said the BJP leaders forget that in the last year of its government, the unemployment rate in the state was a whopping 22.2 percent.
Also, the BJP-led Modi government had promised 2 crore jobs every year, which never came in the last seven years, he pointed out.
The country had also faced loss of employment, mass exodus and migration during the two phases of the pandemic. The BJP leaders have not spoken a word on it nor taken any steps to provide relief to those who lost their jobs, Choubey said.
