Class 10 Dalit student dies after assault by teacher in Auraiya

Tuesday, 27 September 2022 | PNS | Lucknow

Brutal assault in the name of corporal punishment took its toll when in a fresh incident, a Class 10 Dalit student was fatally beaten up by his school teacher in Auraiya.

The student died during treatment in a hospital.

The victim, Nikhil Dohre, was beaten up by his social science teacher on September 7 as he had made a mistake in an exam. His health deteriorated after that and he was being treated in a hospital. The teacher also contributed to the treatment.

On September 24, Nikhil's father, Raju Dohre, lodged a report in the Achhalda police station against the teacher for not cooperating in the treatment and for using caste-indicative abusive words.

He made a complaint after Nikhil died during treatment on Saturday.

The FIR was registered against the accused, Ashwini Singh, at Acchalda police station and teams have been formed to arrest the accused.

Auraiya’s Superintendent of Police Charu Nigam said, “We have talked to Etawah chief medical officer to set up a panel for autopsy to find out the cause of death and get the autopsy and videographed. Further action will be taken. Three teams have been formed to arrest the accused."

In another incident, a Class IV employee of the BEd department committed suicide in a classroom of the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University.

The employee, identified as Vibhuti Prasad, ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling. When the teachers saw him hanging, they immediately informed the Cantonment police, and the cops rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.

During the investigation, police recovered a suicide note from the pocket of the deceased. The suicide note, purportedly written by the deceased, read, "I am writing the suicide note so that people know why I have hanged myself. My wife is dead and I have been suffering from stomach disease for two years. I have cancer in my stomach, there is a lot of pain, so I am committing suicide."

Vibhuti is survived by his sons Kaushal Kumar Gaur and Pramod Gaur.

The police sent the body for post-mortem and further investigation is underway.

In Etawah, a 25-year-old man died after allegedly falling off a moving train, officials said on Monday.

Yashvardhan Rana, a basketball referee, was travelling in the Sangam Express when he fell from the train on the intervening night of September 24-25 between Ekdil and Bharthana railway stations in the Kanpur-Tundla division.

Rana, who was also an instructor at the Modi Sports Academy in Meerut, was going to Kanpur for the 61st Uttar Pradesh Basketball Competition at Chaudhary Harmohan Singh Yadav Paramedical College, along with the Meerut team.

According to Etawah Superintendent of Police (City) Kapil Dev Singh, Rana, a resident of Civil Lines in Meerut, was in S-5 coach while the basketball team was travelling in the S-3 and S-7 coaches. When the train reached Kanpur station on Sunday morning, a search operation was launched after Rana was not found inside the coach. Later, a body was found lying on the side of the railway track near Bharthana station of Etawah district. Officials from the Basketball Association reached the spot and identified the body.
