On the eve of the International Day for Older Persons, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced a Helpline facility for senior citizens to start from November 1, the foundation day of the state.
An official communiqué on Friday said the helpline would assist elderly persons whose children are working in other parts of the country or abroad.
Such elderly persons can call the Helpline in case of medical emergency. The administration will provide them necessary care, the communiqué said.
The Chief Minister has told the Chief Secretary to make necessary arrangements for starting the Helpline.
Baghel said it was the government's moral duty to help such persons who have contributed to nation building.
“We have made arrangements to ensure their honour," he said.
There are 31 old age homes across the state to provide the elderly free shelter, meals, clothes, medical facility and a family atmosphere, Baghel said.
