Taking cognisance of complaints of gross mismanagement and deaths of pilgrims in the Char Dham Yatra, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has deputed two of his cabinet colleagues to monitor the Yatra. The step has come after the Prime Minister's Office sought a report on the deaths of more than 20 pilgrims during the recently started Char Dham Yatra. Now the cabinet minister Dhan Singh Rawat will oversee the arrangements and facilities in Kedarnath shrine while his cabinet colleague Subodh Uniyal would oversee things at Badrinath shrine. The ministers would regularly monitor the facilities for the pilgrims in these two shrines.

On Wednesday CM Dhami held a meeting of the officers at the state secretariat in which he directed that the arrangements should be strengthened. He said that the health facilities in the Char Dhams should be improved and the toilets should be kept clean. Dhami said that the pilgrims coming from different parts of the world and the country should have a safe and easy Yatra. He said that the tourism and health departments should issue an advisory for the pilgrims coming for the Yatra.  Dhami stressed that the pilgrims and tourists visiting the state should go back home carrying a positive message and image of the state.
