Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday told        students of the Atmanand School here why their school was named after Swami Atmanand.

During Baghel’s visit to the school, a girl, Rashmi Daharia, asked him about Swami Atmanand.

The Chief Minister, standing near the black board, narrated the life of Swami Atmanand.

He said that Swami Atmanand was born in Raipur. His father's name was Dhaniram Verma. He was a freedom fighter and teacher. He was a gold medalist from Nagpur in MSc Maths.

During his stay in Nagpur, he felt inspired to follow the path of Swami Vivekananda.

Even after scoring top marks in Indian Civil Service exam, he did not become a Collector. Instead, he joined Swami Vivekananda Ashram.

He told then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi that people of Abujhmad were denied government schemes. On her appeal, he opened an ashram in Abujhmad.

Swamiji was a great reformer and a great thinker. That is why their school was named after Swami Atmanand, Baghel said.

The Chief Minister later told the Collector of Bastar to take the students of the school to the ashram      established by Swami Atmanand in Narayanpur.
