Cong no more secular, has degenerated into Hindutva party: CPI(M)

The Indian National Congress is no more a secular party and it has degenerated into a Hindutwa party, according to CPI(M) strongman Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Speaking to media persons, Balakrishnan, the Kerala secretary of the party said that the recent declarations by former AICC President Rahul Gandhi MP exposed the Hindutwa agenda of the Congress.

“Rahul Gandhi has said that India belonged to the Hindus and only Hindus could become rulers of the country. This proves beyond any doubt that the Indian National Congress is playing the Hindu card and it has alienated the minority communities,” charged Balakrishnan.

The CPI(M) leader claimed that minorities, especially the Muslims have started ditching the Congress and joining the CPI(M). “The Muslim community is upset with the Congress leadership for the statement by Rahul Gandhi and also the side-lining of senior Muslim leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Salman Khurshid and a host of other prominent faces,” he said.

Balakrishnan’s charge comes within days of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan (who is under treatment in a hospital in USA) that the Congress has no capability of its own to take on the BJP’s Hindu agenda. But the Congress in Kerala retaliated within seconds terming the CPI(M) secretary’s statement as a precursor to anoint Mohammed Riyaz as the Chief Minister of Kerala in the event of any eventualities. “Balakrishnan is to Vijayan as what Amit Shah is to Narendra Modi. Balakrishnan knows that Vijayan’s only mission is to get Riyaz elevated as the chief minister of Kerala after him and the new found love of the CPI(M) towards the Muslim community was with this agenda,” said K Muraleedharan MP who is a former KPCC president.

Muraleedharan, son of former chief minister K Karunakaran, said that the Congress does not have any issues in the CPI(M)’s agenda or missions. “They do have clear mandate to rule the State till 2016. But Kodiyeri Balakrishnan should not forget that it was he who warned the people of Kerala that if the Congress-led UDF wins the 2021 assembly election, a Muslim would become the chief minister of the State,” said Muraleedharan.

Mohammed Riyaz is the second husband of Veena, elder daughter of Pinarayi Vijayan. Riyaz was the president of the CPI(M) youth wing DYFI and a first time MLA and a minister holding the important portfolio of Public Works Department and Tourism in the council of ministers led by his Mama (uncle).
