Contribution of fighters of Merger Movement is unforgettable

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today unfurled the Tiranga while launching the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign in old Bhopal city on the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. Chief Minister Chouhan unfurled the Tiranga in the historic Jumerati Sub Post Office building complex. On this occasion, singer Suhasini Joshi presented the national song Vande Mataram and the police band gave music. Chief Minister Chouhan made an appeal to unfurled the Tiranga at every home and every shop.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that India became independent on August 15, 1947. Even after getting independence, some princely states of the country did not join the Indian Union. One of them was also the princely state of Bhopal. The princely state of Bhopal merged with the Indian Union on June 1, 1949.

For this the merger movement was launched. The contribution of the fighters of this movement is unforgettable. Among its main heroes were Prof. Akshay Kumar Jain, Ramcharan Rai, Shankardayal Sharma, Uddhavdas Mehta, Ratan Das Gupta, Premnarayan Shrivastava, Bal Krishna Gupta, Thakur Lal Singh, Shanti Devi, Mohini Devi, Mathura Babu etc. Even after the repressive action, the merger movement intensified. During that period, on 15 August 1947, the freedom fighters hoisted the Tiranga at the Jumerati Sub Post Office. Five youths were martyred in Boras of Raisen district. Finally Bhopal got freedom from the Nawabi rule.

In the programme, Chief Minister Chouhan got the citizens present to raise slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Vande Mataram. The Jumerati area of old Bhopal city reverberated with the voice of patriotism.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a message of love for the nation to the people of the nation through "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign in the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. Citizens of Madhya Pradesh are giving new heights by making this campaign successful.

Chief Minister Chouhan also welcomed the freedom fighter Pt. Uddhavdas Mehta's son Pt Om Mehta, Ratan Kumar Gupta's son Dr. Alok Gupta, former President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma's younger brother Ish Dayal Sharma, freedom fighter and litterateur Prof Lalit Jain, son of Akshay Kumar Jain and family members of other fighters were welcomed and honoured with floral garlands and shawls.

Chief Minister Chouhan called upon the citizens present to unfurled the flag at every house. Mayor Malti Rai proposed vote of thanks. A large number of citizens including former Bhopal Mayor Alok Sharma, Collector Avinash Lavania were present.
