More than seven months after an alleged assault on an advocate of the Orissa High Court, the Cuttack city police on Monday filed the charge-sheets against seven doctors of the SCB Medical
College Hospital here. City DCP Pinak Mishra informed about it to the High Court in connection with a Criminal Miscellaneous
Petition (CRLMP) filed by advocate Sapan Kumar Pal, who had been assaulted by the doctors on October 21 last year.
According to reports, Pal had gone to the hospital for treatment of one of his relatives. He was, however, attacked by the doctors mercilessly when he complained of negligence in treatment and hospital mismanagement. He lodged an FIR at the local Mangalabag police station on the same day. But when police failed to investigate the matter, Pal approached the High Court alleging police inaction.
Last month while adjudicating the petition, Justice
Aditya Kumar Mohapatra had directed the Cuttack DCP to supervise the
investigation when the Government Advocate informed the High Court
that the hospital authorities were not cooperating with police in
providing the CCTV footages or naming the doctors who were on duty on that date.
The DCP on Monday through an affidavit informed that the charge-sheets have been filed against the accused doctors.
