Cyclone Asani, which was lying off the Andhra
Pradesh coast on Wednesday, is unlikely to have much impact on
Odisha, said Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena.
On the probable movement of the cyclone, he said it was likely to
make landfall between Kakinada and Narsapur of Andhra Pradesh on
Wednesday night. Then it is likely to re-curve and weaken into
depression to move back to sea on Thursday morning.
Earlier in the day, India Meteorological Department (IMD) DG
Mrutyunjay Mohapatra had also predicted that the cyclone over west-
central Bay of Bengal may make landfall between Kakinada and Narsapur
of AP in the evening.
“We are not expecting any structural damages in Odisha under the impact
of the cyclonic storm because the wind speed in the State will be 40 to 50
kmph,” Mohapatra said.
“Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to
continue along and off the Odisha coast from May 11 to 12,” he added.
