The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Monday sent a notice to city police seeking immediate arrest of grandson of a 70-year-old woman who was being allegedly tortured by him for her property. Police said that First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the matter.
According to a DCW official, the 70-year-old woman had approached the Commission through DCW's 181 women helpline on 20 January after which their team visited her that day and helped her in filing an FIR in the matter.
“The woman who resides in East Vinod Nagar in Delhi informed DCW that she was facing constant harassment and torture from her grandson who is after her property. She further stated that in spite of her refusal, her grandson brought a dog six months back to her home and despite several requests, refused to remove it from her property,” said the DCW official.
Expressing fear for her life, she informed the Commission that on January 13, her grandson instigated the dog to viciously attack her. The team met her and saw that she had serious wounds all over her hands.
DCW team immediately took her to Kalyanpuri police station where an FIR under section 289 (Negligent conduct with respect to animal) of Indian Penal Code was filed in the matter.
“It is matter of property dispute. An FIR has been registered in the matter and an investigation is going on,” said a senior police official.
Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the Commission has asked the police to give details of steps being taken for ensuring the safety of the lady as well as to provide a detailed action taken report in the matter by January 31.
DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal while expressing outrage over the incident stated, " Stringent action must be taken in the matter against the grandson and other culprits. Police must also ensure the lady's safety. I have sought a detailed report from Delhi Police."
