In order to promote citizen's engagement towards reducing the share of pollution in the national Capital, the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDC) will be organising ‘Raahgiri Day’ at Burari on Sunday.
According to a senior DDC official, the street from Pushta Road Baba Colony to Pradhan Colony will be cordoned off for a few hours to organise the event without any obstacle on Sunday morning.
“The streets will be used by the citizens for recreation that will promote health, wellbeing, fitness, togetherness and joy,” he said.
“This event is being hosted by the Delhi Government for the fourth time in Burari, to promote its citizen-engagement campaign ‘Yuddh Pradushan Ke Virudh’ against pollution.
This event was earlier organized in Patparganj, Najafgarh, and Greater Kailash. People can enjoy various activities such as cycling, skating, running and walking on the roads freely.
They can join in community leisure activities such as street games, street dancing, nukkad natak and other arts, the official said. According to Vice Chairperson of DDC Jasmine Shah said “This ‘Yuddh Pradushan Ke Viruddh’ campaign was launched by the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal with a vision to encourage citizen of the state to take individual responsibility for reducing air pollution.”
“This concept was adopted by DDC Delhi as it helps in encouraging the citizens and participating in the fun activities together is a wonderful, joyous way to come together for common community goals.
Delhi Government has also shown its commitment to promoting public health, well-being, fitness, togetherness, and joy,” he added.
The central idea of ‘Raahgiri Day’ is to allow people to experience a street without cars which can help them re-imagine what our streets and our environment can be. Creating open streets and public spaces for such activities also promotes public health, well-being, fitness, togetherness and joy.
