On the occasion of International Day of Older Persons-2022, the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Dr Ranbir Singh, said that the CEO office felicitated 102  centenarian voters of 11 district across the city for their valuable contribution and being an inspiration for the younger generations and strengthening the overall democratic process. 

The Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) of the respective district felicitated them by visiting their home and a personalised addressed letter from the  Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Rajiv Kumar in a beautiful frame was handed over to the centenarian voters, said the official.

The SDM of New Delhi handed over the letter from CEC along with a bouquet to Malini Kao (102 years of age) a resident of Vasant Vihar for her valuable contribution in bolstering the electoral process. Similarly Sitara jain (111) west Gorakh park in Babarpur was felicitated by SDM.              

In order to ensure maximum participation of senior citizens (80+ age group) and Voters with Disabilities, the ECI has introduced many facilitations like wheelchairs, ramps, volunteers, free 'to and fro' transport facilities and queue-less voting are a few of the facilities available to every elder voter. Further, our elder voters can also cast their vote from the comfort of their home by filling up the form 12D.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has written a personalised letter to over 2.5 lakh centenarian voters across the country expressing gratitude for their contribution in the electoral process.

 According to the poll panel, there are over 2.5 lakh voters aged 100 years and above, while there are almost 1.8 crore voters aged 80 and above. "It is because of responsible elder voters like you that we, as a democracy, are flourishing and outshining the world," Kumar wrote.

 The letters were sent to every state's chief electoral officers, who in turn ensured that they were hand delivered to all the centenarian voters.
