Ranjit Rawat could contest against Harish Rawat in Ramnagar, former Minister Durgapal resigns from party

Dissent has erupted in the Congress party after the release of the second list of candidates for the assembly elections. Interestingly the voices of the dissent were less after the Congress party released its first list of 53 candidates but after the second list on Monday night revolt has arisen in many seats.

In Ramnagar where the party has announced candidature of former chief minister Harish Rawat, the executive president of Uttarakhand Congress Ranjit Rawat is showing open defiance. After the announcement of the candidature of Harish Rawat hundreds of supporters of Ranjit Rawat assembled in his house in Ramanagar. The Congress leadership is trying hard to placate Ranjit and is offering him ticket from Salt assembly but till Tuesday night, the Ranjit Rawat camp was claiming that their leader would enter into the contest as an independent candidate from Ramnagar. In Lalkuan from where the Congress has given its ticket to Sandhya Dalakoti, the former minister Harish Chandra Durgpal announced rebellion. The senior leader who represented the seat in the election of 2012 resigned from the Congress party and declared that he would contest as an independent candidate from Lalkuan. A similar situation is being witnessed in Rishikesh where senior leader and former minister Shoorveer Singh Sajwan is angry over denial of ticket to him. Here the party has nominated young Jayendra Ramola as its candidate. Alleging something fishy in ticket distribution Sajwan said that he was the only name in the panel and in every survey the party conducted he was on  top. Sajwan said he is confident that the party would reconsider its decision. In Rudraprayag also former minister Matbar Singh Kandari has announced his rebellion from Congress. Similarly former MLA Bhimlal Arya has declared that he would contest as an independent from Ghansali assembly.

The supporters of Congress leader Raghubir Singh Bisht who was the strong contender for the party ticket from Lansdowne assembly held a protest at Congress Bhawan on Tuesday over denial of ticket to their leader. In Lansdowne the Congress has given a ticket to Anukriti Gusain Rawat who is the daughter in-law of Harak Singh Rawat.
