DM issues instructions for smooth conduct of Kanwad Mela

Wednesday, 06 July 2022 | PNS | HARIDWAR

The Kanwad Mela is slated to begin from next week- July 14 and is expected to bring a considerable number of visitors to Haridwar. Ahead of this major event, the Haridwar district magistrate Vinay Shankar Pandey held a meeting with hoteliers and office bearers of Vyapar Mandal on Tuesday to ensure that the Kanwadiyas and locals do not face any problem during the Kanwad Melar. The DM issued necessary instructions to all to address various issues in the meeting. He said that it is not only the responsibility of police or administration alone, but every citizen of the city is responsible for the successful completion of the Kanwad Mela. As in the past, this time too sticks, baseball bats and trishuls have been completely banned in Haridwar.

The police-administration have almost completed their preparations regarding the Kanwad Mela of Shravan month (Sawan), which is going to start next week. In order to prevent any untoward incident with the Shiva devotees coming during the yatra, the district magistrate held talks with the office bearers of all the Vyapar Mandals, hotel and Dharamshala association in the CCR auditorium.

In order to prevent any disorder in the upcoming Kanwad Mela, the district magistrate has banned the sale of any kind of tridents, sticks and baseball bats in the markets. He clearly said that if these banned items are found at any shop, then strict action will be taken against the persons concerned. During Kanwad Mela, no mischievous element should cause any kind of disturbance in the Mela area.  For this, strict guidelines have been given to the operators of all the hotels, dharamshalas and lodges of Haridwar directing the operators to not provide accommodation to anyone without valid identification proof. If a visitor without ID is found staying at someone's place, then action will be taken against him as well.

The DM has instructed everyone to get their CCTV cameras repaired before the fair.  Apart from this, everyone has been asked to save the CCTV memory for at least 15 days.If the CCTV of someone's place is found to be defective during the investigation, then the administration will take strict action against him as well. The DM also ordered all to ensure rate list on every counter because it was seen that absence of rate list has resulted in disturbance in the past. The Haridwar senior superintendent of police Yogendra Singh Rawat and others were also present in the meeting.
